This pack has 112 acoustic simulation presets for the Axe-Fx III with firmware 12.07 and above. The idea was to use as many different electric guitars/pickups as possible and make acoustic simulation presets for each of them. I used the Tonematch block to make them and exported the curves as IRs, to be used in the Cab block.
These are brand new presets, not a simple conversion of the Axe-FX II or AX8 versions : I used 5 different acoustic guitar sounds sources to make this pack, so for each instrument (like a Fender Stratocaster in neck position), there are five different presets, each using a specific IR made from one of the five acoustic sources. Each preset also has 7 scenes with different effects.
The sources are as follow :
- A Musicman Majesty piezo sound (simulating a piezo sound often works better with an electric guitar)
- A Taylor 914ce recorded with a AT2035 microphone
- A Taylor 914ce DI sound (from its piezo pickup)
4 & 5 are third party acoustic guitar recordings, carefully chosen among dozens of reference recordings.
Two other sources, from Martin guitars, have been used for the bonus presets :
Fender Stratocaster with Fishman Fluence pickups (firmware 12.08), and Fender Telecaster Baja with DiMarzios (firmware 12.09).
Guitars and pickups used :
Fender Stratocaster Ltd edition HSS (1 : neck, 2 : bridge+middle)
Fender Stratocaster SSS with Fishman Fluence pickups (1 : neck, 2 : bridge+middle) Fender Telecaster Baja with DiMarzio pickups (middle position)
Epiphone Les Paul with Gibson ’57/Super ’57 pickups (middle position, no split)Gibson SG Standard HP 2018 with 57 Classic/Super 57 Classic (middle position, no split)
Ibanez J Custom RG8540 with DiMarzio Air Norton (neck position)
Ibanez RGR5220 with Bare Knuckle Brute Force pickups (1 : both humbuckers, 2 : both split)
Tom Anderson Angel with H3+/SC1 pickup combination (no split)
Suhr Standard Pro S2 with ML and Doug Aldritch picukps (1 : neck, 2 : bridge+middle)
Musicman Majesty (middle position, both split) – for those who have that guitar without the piezo !
Harley Benton ES-335 type guitar (middle position, no split)
PRS Paul’s Guitar (middle position, no split)
Strandberg Original 7 with Fishman Fluence pickups (middle position, no split)
Line 6 Variax JTV89 with DiMarzio Norton/LiquiFirepickups (middle position, no split) – there’s also presets for the Stratocaster, Telecaster and acoustic models of the Variax; not a fan of the acoustic model, I wanted to make it much better. This guitars selection should cover most needs.
User IRs
Each preset uses a specific IR in the cab block. There are 104 IRs, as the 105th preset is a customization example with two different IRs in.
Firmware 12.08 update + bonus :
User IRs
Each preset uses a specific IR in the cab block. There are 104 IRs, as the 105th preset is a customization example with two different IRs in.
Firmware 12.08 update + bonus :
- 14 presets added, for a Fender Stratocaster guitar with Fishman Fluence pickups (7 presets for neck position, 7 presets for bridge position). These presets uses 2 new reference sources, on top of the 5 I used up to now. The original version of the pack had 92 presets, now it’s 105.
- bug fix : scene 3 of all presets incorrectly selected channel B of the cab block instead of channel A.
- Sound improvement : I just noticed that all the IRs sounds better with smoothing on 6 instead of 0 ; all the presets have been updated accordingly.
Firmware 12.09 bonus :
7 presets added for a Telecaster Baja, middle position.

Is this pack updated for the latest (Cygnus) firmware?
If not, have you tried it out in Cygnus? And will you plan to update it soon?

Hello! It doesn’t make sense to update to cygnus a pack that doesn’t use any amp model 😉

Ah, ok thanks! I am new to fractal and presets, so I didn’t realize that cygnus wouldn’t affect those. Appreciate the reply though!

Hi Thibault!
Stupid question but would these presets work well with my ovation acoustic/electric guitar instead of using an electric guitar? Thanks for your hard work and all that you do. Love your work!

Hello, thank you for your comments ! Yes it would but most of the presets will be useless for that specific guitar (but not for other electrics you may have). However, there is one, made for the Music Man Majesty piezo pickup, that should be in the ballpark for your guitar.

Hi Thibault,
I am having fun playing thru all of these presets/IR’s. There is some great stuff here! Good thing we’re on lockdown… it’s gonna take me a while to sort out what works best for me. But since we have no gigs for a while, it’s a party! Thanks!!!

You’re welcome David ! Yes, there are tons of options here, and don’t forget to try to combine 2 IRs 🙂
